Vehicle Damage Categories

When we say that we buy any car, we really mean it.
There are four key classifications that your vehicle will be categorised as if it is a non-runner or has been damaged.

Category A
Scrap only. This is for cars so badly damaged they need to be crushed and never return to the road. Even salvageable parts must be destroyed.

Category B
Body shell must be recycled. The car has suffered extensive damage and must not return to the road. Some component parts may be salvaged and fitted to other vehicles.

Category S (formerly category C)
This grading means that the vehicle has suffered structural damage, possibly the chassis has been twisted or body shell crumple zones collapsed.
This level of damage is more than merely cosmetic, so the vehicle must be professionally repaired before it can be allowed back on the road.

Category N (formerly category D)
Vehicles graded accordingly have not been structurally damaged, although the vehicle has been deemed uneconomical to repair. Brake, steering, electrical or emission control systems can be expensive to repair to insurance company standards in comparison the the value of an older car. Such vehicles must not be driven unless the faults are repaired.
